On 29 Oct 1747 (WD 24:480), Daniel, school master of Nichewoag (predecessor of Petersham) bought house lot 18 of 66 acres for £300 from Sam'l Wilson of Nichewoag, yeoman. This was a considerable purchase, indicating that while Daniel may have been a school master, he was well-to-do agriculturist as well.992 On 25 May 1748 Daniel Fisk, schoolmaster of Nichewoag, sold half of Lot 18 to his father-in-law, Edward Goddard of Shrewsbury (WD 48:293) for £200, but on the same day bought back one acre of lot 18 for the same amount (WD 28:227)! It appears that Daniel Fisk essentially gave Edward Goddard, a man of considerable wealth, 32 acres free. The logic of these transactions is not clear, but one interpretation is that Daniel at this point owned only this half (despite a lack of record on the other half), and the cross-transaction somehow served to satisfy a debt of Fisk to Goddard.993 On 12 Jan 1750, Daniel Fisk of Nichewoag, schoolmaster, acquired another 35 acres for £40 from John Stowell, Jr. of Nichewoag, being the south part of Lot 68 (WD 31:90, writing sometimes looks like Lot 65). On 01 Oct 1750, John Stowell Jr. sold another 3 acres of this lot to Abraham Byham (or Bryan), blacksmith in a transaction witnessed by Daniel Fisk (WD 31:167). On 18 Oct 1750, Stowell sold yet another half acre of the same lot to Edward Goddard, witnessed by Daniel and Elizabeth Fisk. On 03 Sep 1753, Daniel Fisk, schoolmaster of Nichewoag, sold a small piece of land to Byham the blacksmith described as a piece of land in Lot 60 adjoining Lot 68 included by mistake in the original sale to Fisk (WD 37:556). Finally, on 24 Sep 1762, Daniel Fisk, now described as schoolmaster of Petersham, sold his holding of Lot 65 back to John Stowell of Petersham for £93/6, and the deed was signed by both Daniel and Elizabeth Fisk his wife (WD 56:216).
The History of Petersham (p. 33) states that House Lot 69 drawn in 1733 by Oliver Pollard was settled in 1750 by Daniel Fisk. This may be a gross mistranscription of th same facts.994 He and Elizabeth Goddard moved to Shutesbury, Franklin, MA, when they sold several pieces of Shutesbury property to Isaac Samson of Easton and Archeleus Leonard of Middleborough. Both signed the deed before 9 Nov 1769.995 He moved to Deerfield, Franklin, MA, when he "of Montague" bought property from Jno. Ashley. The Goddard Book had stated that Elizabeth Goddard married Daiel Fisk of Deerfield and had nineteen children on 5 Sep 1770.
