On 30 Dec 1718 Lot 9, 69 acres, granted to Edw. Goddard. By 1729 it was in the possession of Jacob Green. (Lot 15 belonged to Thos. Hapgood).1048 On 25 May 1748 Daniel Fisk, schoolmaster of Nichewoag, sold half of Lot 18 to his father-in-law, Edward Goddard of Shrewsbury (WD 48:293) for £200, but on the same day bought back one acre of lot 18 for the same amount (WD 28:227)! It appears that Daniel Fisk essentially gave Edward Goddard, a man of considerable wealth, 32 acres free. The logic of these transactions is not clear, but one interpretation is that Daniel at this point owned only this half (despite a lack of record on the other half), and the cross-transaction somehow served to satisfy a debt of Fisk to Goddard.1049 Landowner, 'gentleman.' He left a will on 5 Feb 1773 Shrewsbury, Worcester, MA (Edward Goddard, Esq., Gentleman of Shrewsbury, amassed many parcels of land in Shrewsbury, Petersham and Templeton during his life, and distributed them by locality to his sons. His will, dated 05 Feb 1773 and probated 01 Dec 1777 after his death on 13 Oct of that year, mentions Eunice his wife and names his son Daniel executor. (Worcester Probate Series A. 24255:224:533, 24256:17:255) He also names: s. Nathan, left the land in Petersham bought from [blacksmith] Abraham Bryan or Byham (spelled both ways in court records). s. Robert, left the right to commons in Petersham and his meetinghouse pew there, indicating that Edward was a particpant in the community. s. David, Land in Templeton d. Hepzibeth Goddard, left occupancy on Nathan's property. s. Edward, already cared for. d.
