David Parson Holton, "several years". The fact that the author of the Winslow Memorial knew his aunt Phila so personally adds credibility to the details of her family found in that work.1803

The name Sovel is as it reads and also as it is transcribed in the Census index, but the Asst. marshall, Henry Schnoor, made all his capital "L's" look like "S's". The "Frall" and male sex entry are harder to figure. Schnoor may have written "Frau Lovell" or "Fall", not understanding "Phila". Wrong sex entires were not that rare. Or the deception was deliberate: Phila was recorded as Philip in her death record). Papers remaining in the probate file refer to her will but the will is not there. Her son-in-law Gardner Spring Plumley petitioned the Surrogate of the County of New York on 30 Dec 1862, stating that he was the executor named in the will of Phila P. Lovell, late of the County of New York, widow, deceased; that she departed this life "June last"; that her heirs and next of kin were:

Martha l. Fisher, widow, res. New York City;

Phila L. wife of Alvah Ward, both res. Little Falls, Herkimer Co., NY;

Frances L. wife of --- Gordon severally residing in St. Louis;

Solon Lovell, res. Sacramento, CA;

the above four being the only surviving children of the deceased, all of full age. Also, that she left no grandchildren of deceased children. Finally, that the estate did not exceedc $1,000 in value.1805
